AS WE GATHER The final three weeks of the Church Year are traditionally concerned with “the last things.” The lessons of the Church bring a special opportunity to reflect on the end of time and on the end of our earthly lives. In the Apostles’ Creed, we affirm our belief in the resurrection of the body, which is God’s good but temporary gift to us while we are living on earth. With all who have died in the faith before us, we await the coming of the Lord. Paul writes, “We shall all be changed.” Our faithful worship helps us prepare for that glorious event!

REMEMBRANCE DAY: Every year on November 11, Canadians pause in a silent moment of remembrance for the men and women who have served, and continue to serve our country during times of war, conflict and peace. We honour those who fought for Canada in the First World War (1914-1918), the Second World War (1939-1945), and the Korean War (1950-1953), as well as those who have served since then. More than 2.3 million Canadians have served our country in this way, and more than 118,000 have died. They gave their lives and their futures so that we may live in peace.
YOUTH WORSHIP NIGHT @ WALNUT GROVE LUTHERAN
Hello! I would like to extend an invitation on behalf of Walnut Grove Youth to our upcoming youth worship night! The worship night is for youth in grades six through twelve. We will be gathering at Walnut Grove Lutheran Church on Thursday, Nov. 16th from 6:45 to 9pm. The night will consist of music and singing, games, small groups and a talk based off of the theme “Love Thy Neighbour”.
Our hope and prayer is to connect the youth of the Fraser Valley in a fun and exciting environment where they can make new friends and be encouraged in their faith. If you are willing, please share this with your church’s youth. We look forward to connecting with you and worshipping God together!
At our event we will be collecting shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child. We welcome you to be a part of this project and help us send these boxes to those in need. For more information on what this mission is about, or how to acquire and fill a box, you can find more details at https://www.samaritanspurse.ca/what-we-do/operation-christmas-child Please RSVP and let me know if you have any questions.

The last Sunday in October is our annual festival of Reformation. Reformation celebrates the basics of the Christian faith and renewal in the church. On Oct. 31, 1517, Dr. Martin Luther, an Augustinian monk and teacher, posted his Ninety-Five Theses on the Castle Church door — the church bulletin door — in Wittenberg, Germany. It was the day before All Hallows (All Saints) Day, when all would come to the Castle Church for worship. Luther’s All Hallows Eve action — desiring that the church be faithful to the Gospel — is widely regarded as the beginning of the Reformation.

AS WE GATHER: God calls His people to lives of commitment, including making commitments to the Church and to the nation where the people live. Ultimately, God is Lord over both the Church and over all nations. Sometimes, in His providence, He shows His dominion in ways not readily understood. He may use non-Christian leaders and unchristian nations to further His gracious plans. In living our lives, we are called to carry out the duties and responsibilities associated with citizenship in our nation. At the same time we are to demonstrate our highest allegiance to God by being people of faith who show love and evidence hope in all situations.

AS WE GATHER Whenever we come together for the Lord’s Supper, we anticipate the eternal worship of heaven, which the Bible compares to a wedding feast. The Sacrament is a foretaste of the feast to come. God invited His people through the prophets. The description of that Meal includes seeing God face-to-face. In today’s Gospel, Jesus again extends the invitation through His parable, but He notes the varying responses it receives. Paul leads us to respond with rejoicing. Knowing that the eternal feast is ready, we may be content in all circumstances.
BIBLE READINGS
OLD TESTAMENT READING: Isaiah 25:6–9 (There is only rejoicing at the heavenly banquet.)
EPISTLE READING: Philippians 4:4–13 (Knowing the Lord produces contentment in all circumstances.)
HOLY GOSPEL: Matthew 22:1–14 (The parable of the wedding feast)
AS WE GATHER It is difficult to give thanks when you are not content. To be content is to be satisfied with what you have. Sadly, even in this season of thanksgiving, we might be more familiar with the opposite of contentment—greed or covetousness. Perhaps the apostle Paul’s words from today’s Epistle can help. Even while under arrest in Rome for the sake of the Gospel, Paul still writes, “I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.” Paul’s “secret” when it comes to contentment is that in Christ, and in His strength, Paul has all he needs. Jesus’ death, resurrection, and presence in our lives gives us reason to be content and to give thanks today and every day! Give me Jesus, Give me Jesus. You may have all the rest, Give me Jesus.
Bible Readings
OLD TESTAMENT READING: Deuteronomy 8:1–10 (“Man does not live on bread alone.”)
EPISTLE READING: Philippians 4:6–20(Paul’s contentment in every situation)
HOLY GOSPEL: Luke 17:11–19: (Jesus heals the ten lepers.)

SEWING FOR MISSIONS~OUR NEXT MEETING WILL BE OCTOBER 4 – 10:00-12:00pm
Hi everyone,
We are excited to be part of the Christmas Child mission and pray that we can continue to bless children through the shoeboxes.
This all happens because of you and your incredible passion and giftings. Thank you for everything that you are doing so that the shoeboxes are filled and ready for the children.
We plan on filling 100 boxes from Trinity Lutheran church this year, and appreciate your help in filling the boxes. We will make the boxes for girls 10-14, sewing hygiene kits for each of these girls. Also including school supplies, a sewn sundress/skirt, etc. in their shoes box. You can also bring supplies – flannel or printed cotton sheets, bias tape, rick rack, narrow elastic, school supplies or $ donations and put it in our Shoebox donation box in the narthex.
Please see / phone Darlene or Lucille if you need more information.
This year the shoeboxes are going to ten countries: West Africa (Gambia, Guinea Bissau, Sierra Leone, Senegal, Guinea), Cost Rica, El Salvador, Philippines, Nicaragua, and Ukraine.
THANK YOU for all your help,
Lucille & Darlene
PLEASE MARK YOUR CALENDARS! TLC’s Annual Christmas Banquet will take place on Saturday, December 16th!
SUNDAY SCHOOL
Sunday School is beginning THIS SUNDAY ~ October 1st. The children will come to the front of the church for a brief “Children’s Message” and then go to class.
Please contact Hella if you have any questions or would like to volunteer.
PRAYER FOR SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHERS: Lord, we pray for all the teachers of our Sunday School. Just as you told Peter to “feed my lambs,” may our teachers be enabled to teach and train Your children in the way of life. Grant them Your wisdom and knowledge that they may also share it with Your children and help them to grow spiritually. Amen.
IMPORTANT REMINDER: As the weather turns cold and doors and windows are closed, please be mindful of those with severe allergies to scents and other allergens. Thank you for your care and concern.
UKRAINE AID FUND UPDATE: As of September 14, 2023, the people of LCC have raised a total of $777,867.89for the LCC Ukraine Relief Aid Fund. @ Lutheran Church-Canada Donate
REMINDER: Lutheran Church–Canada (LCC)’s Ukraine Aid Fund directly supports our partner church, the Synod of Evangelical Lutheran Churches in Ukraine (SELCU) during this current crisis. The Ukraine Aid Fund established by Concordia Lutheran Mission Society (CLMS) will contribute to rebuilding efforts and other expenses, anticipating the significant financial need that will arise in the aftermath of this current conflict. As auxiliaries of LCC, the funds raised through CLMS, and Lutheran Women’s Missionary League of Canada (LWMLC) to name another example, will be directed to our partner Church in Ukraine through LCC. This is just one of the ways that the various auxiliaries, listed service organizations, and people of our Synod are working together, as one Body under Christ in support of humanitarian works of mercy. Canadian Lutheran World Relief (CLWR) is also working to provide general humanitarian relief in Ukraine through the help of their partner organizations.
